Philips (You know of the connection between Philips and NXP) acquired Signetics in 1989, and, ever since then, they've been flushing out the products I considered good and useful, and promoting others that I didn't find as good or as useful. I think Philips' effort in spinning off NXP was intended to flush out their firmly-anchored but incompetent management. As a result, I've used few Philips products and no NXP products since then.

This is probably just another stumble in the NXP procession toward oblivion.
