According to the manual, BASCOM is capable of both MMIO and port-driven LCD support... but the port-driven arrangement is only capable of 4-bit transfers. Since some LCDs have embedded controllers that don't support 4-bit modes, I'm exploring my options at the moment.

I have the datasheets for the MCU, LCDs, and other IO chips I'm thinking of using - I'm just trying to clear up some of the conflicts that I have in my mind about the whole thing. (It's probably just that I haven't studied everything quite enough... but it helps to have second opinions at times. :-) )
