#187175 - I've no opinion about the current LINUX Responding to: ???'s previous message |
I really don't remember what the current release of LINUX, in its various distributions was back in the mid-'90's, but ... I freely admit I've had little to do with it since then. I've been part of a few discussions of the documentation, and most of the people in those discussions freely admitted that there was considerable lag between software release and the associated doc's.
BTW, when I say documentation should precede coding, I'm referring to documentation that details how the software should work, interact with the user, etc, and not how it DOES so as released. One of the problems with Windows is that one is forced to make extensive assumptions, as the publisher doesn't tell us what it's supposed to do. I guess that's to protect them from lawsuit. As for the current documentation, I'm still looking for doc's that align with the FEDORA version I occasionally try to use. I'm told it's pretty current, but the specifics that would enable me to make my version comfortably useable have, so far, eluded me. I assume that's an exercise for the student, which I certainly am. It's a situation I've nearly always encountered with open-source tools. RE |
