The savings from lack of royalties means a lot if doing high-volume installations.

The savings from a standard OS license fee means a lot if you install a rather "standard" server installation - obviously assuming the people installing and drifting the machine do have knowledge about unix-based systems.

People who just dive for a specific solution are quite likely to fail whatever route they select because they have probably already missed badly on their requirements specifications and their long-term roadmap planning.
