I guess that depends on what you call 'Research'. If there is a R&D tax break for example, I'm sure you'll find shiploads of software included. Qualifying a Controller to a task, and tuning an algorithm to run inside some tight Icc or MHz budget, that you are not really sure you can make, can easily be described as Research, and yes, that is 100% coding. (and some operational testing too, but if that fails, it is fixed by more coding... ) Indeed, in some CPLD/FPGA flows, it gets very hard to do research without coding, as many of the speed reports ONLY come out of the tools after they have compiled your code. |
