Per,
I used a Coldfire processor that had a pin I/O muxing system like you mention. Most pins had 3 and 4 functions selectable and the more popular functions were visible in two (sometimes even 3) different places. That was a joy to work with and was actually easier to understand than the SiLabs XBAR.
