If this is for new development the Atmel part that you cited can be replaced by some other parts that have at least as much capability and more. For example the SiLabs C8051F023 part also offers 3.3V operation, 25MHz single clock cycle core, 64K Flash, hardware SPI, PCA, A/D, DAC outputs and two analog comparators. For more I/Os you could also consider the C8051F022 but it is in a larger package. If you have a product development that is hard pressed to use the Atmel part you could consider making a small adapter to host the SiLabs type part for initial development but then switch over to the Atmel parts when they become more available.
