It is the responsibility of the technical guy immediately beneath this person to make them understand what the technical guys need to do the job and how long it will take. Nor do these sorts understand that you can't put a schedule on "research and development." Unfortunately, in the real world, if you want to get paid, you need to make profits and that means things have to happen to a schedule. There is very little R in industry these days, it is far too expensive and risky. Mostly it is D only, which can be managed to a schedule if the right skills are there. Ian |
