Jez makes a good point about experience. I never recruited raw graduates because as Jez says they have no experience. One way round this is to give then some experience before they graduate. We employed a number of undergraduates during their summer holidays. In the first instance we used them as technicians, building and testing stuff we designed. This way they learnt about components, how to solder and use test equipment. In the second summer we got them helping with a design. If they did all right here we set them a target grade and guaranteed to give them a job if they got the grade. Every single one made the grade.
