#165202 - Very easy to miss things Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Sorry for being pushy :)
I'm very well aware how easy it can be to misunderstand a detail. I thought the marketing speech looked quite nice - it seems like they are delivering what they seem to promise. I haven't seen any "gotcha" where they have rigged their presentation - one thing that so easily happens when talking about one-clockers while not mentioning that not all instructions are 12 times faster. Without having the full instruction documentation it does look like the DT8051 may be one of the fastest one-clockers, besides the ability to run at very high clock frequencies. While this solution may be quite expensive, it can be quite important to keep an eye on it anyway. A developer who have a big 8051 program but finds that there are no faster one-clockers available when trying to scale the product to solve bigger problems may find it economical to go this route. Rewriting an 8051 application to run on multiple processors, or to run on a completely different architecture is most definitely very expensive. I felt that the DT8051 seemed a bit too good to be accidentaly dismissed. Somewhere down the road, it may save someones bacon when you just have to get more processing power. |
