The cost of the eval board does not always affect processor choice. While the marketing guys would like to believe that EVK's cause us to choose an MCU, I generally don't let that influence me. However, if I've already chosen an MCU, then I can use the EVK that has the hardware I want to use in order to develop driver code, and to fiddle with the hardware/firmware interactions. A $140 eval board will not make me say forget 8 Bits go Linux. Probably not, but it will provide opportunity to look at functional drivers. This particular board, having a LINUX OS that runs on it, allows the user to look up the drivers as code examples, not that they're completely suited to the target app, but they have all the necessary functions later needed for the target, and perhaps some that are not. What is the power consumption?
That doesn't matter in this case. 8052 Eval boards cost more because they sell less. Now a days the eval is the first spin PCB. If I believed that, I'd never, Never, NEVER buy one. RE |
