At the keil forum the percentage of posts re the '51 (vs the ARM) has diminished dramatically. Could it be that more and more (of those that should and those that should not) projects have migrated to the ARM?
At the aforemented Keil forum I have seen ARM posts where the ARM was definitely overkill and we all have seen '51 posts where the '51 was 'underkill' The '51 is a great choice for many things, but more and more often you hear "old technology" eventhough the '51 still is the best choice for some applications. I know no "new technology" that surpass the '51 in bit handling. Of course, those that need a RTOS to implement 'blinky' shun the '51 and I do believe that more and more are taught "first you choose a RTOS" which automatically lead to a migration away from the '51 Erik The really good thing about the ARM is that there are LINUX-based tools to support it directly. No need for cross-assembly, no need for cross-compilers ... just run LINUX on the ARM. A decent-enough ARM9 board complete with pre-configured LINUX costs about $140. I'll bet that's not what the ARM folks had in mind when they bought KEIL! RE |
