#168906 - Slow down? Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hi Steve,
It does seem that the forum activity has slowed somewhat. But as Neil suggested, this may well be by design. The forum (by which I mean both management and members) has taken some effort to discourage repeats of old questions, naked pleas for others to do homework, etc.. I think the better question is, "Did it work?" And only you can answer that. If the page hits are still as strong as before then there is reason to believe that Neil is right, that the decrease in postings corresponds to an increase in searches and "noobies" doing their own work. If, on the other hand, the page hits are down proportionally to to decrease in forum postings, then maybe our efforts have driven some of those would-have-been posters away from the site altogether. Anecdotally, and parenthetically, I seem to remember a time when the "visitors online" number was usually larger. So that eventuallity would, of course, raised a whole new set of questions. Did we want those people participating in the forum in the first place? Is it a case of unintended consequences, of regretting that we got what we wanted? Or is it a case of having achieved our goal? In either case, or even if some newbies left the forum altogether, if they continue working with 8052s I suspect they'll be back in time. Or maybe there's something to the hypothesis that people are choosing other ยต-controllers/processors to work with. Joe |
