It's starts by cramming so much junk into the curriculum that kids never learn the fundamentals. And because they are weak on the fundamentals, it's hard for them to build upon that weak foundation with any confidence. At best they start memorizing stuff when they should be able to reason or see patterns.

Face it, schooling kids is not important (not a priority) to the powers that be. Teachers work in overcrowded conditions and we now raise children with a ridiculous sense of self-importance, etc. "Oh I soooo deserved that BMW for my 16th birthday!"

Oh well, the pharmaceutical companies are happy...
