#149886 - They are not equivalent
Responding to: ???'s previous message
The use of "software" and "engineering" in the same context has often caused me to cringe.

Here in the U.S, after 50 years of evolution, software is still seen as an art form rather than and engineering discipline. The engineer wears a shirt and tie, and wingtips, while the "software weenie" is still an unkempt, t-shirted, sneaker-wearing guy with a Pepsi can in his hand. The engineer follows rigorous procedures, while the "software weenie" does who-knows-what, often irrelevant to system requirements. He often fails to document what he intends to do, and makes his work product as inscrutable as possible.

Mixing "IT" with Software "Engineering" makes me cringe, too.
