It can cost you doing it right. Esko and I evidently are willing to pay the price.

When I was consulting i go a job "helping the local folks with some problems" at an automated warehouse.

I showed up on a monday and were told "we have been fighting these 7 problems for months, you can plan on being here for a while"

Well, after a week (probably more due to 'different eyes' than brilliance) I had solved six of the problems. The manager came to me and told me "due to this was a planted lie I am letting you go". One of the local 'programmers' told me "we do not need some smartass to come here and show off"
