#149935 - this was the point I tried to make Responding to: ???'s previous message |

I am sure that Java has it's place, but not in the mainstream or as the primary programming language. This was the point I tried to make. And that there are valid arguments why to chose Java or some else non-mainstream language or environment of any kind; or, for that matter, derivative. Erik Malund said:
Of course, as this thread show, that will happen some day. I don't think so. The '51 together with other 8-bitters already appear to have lost the appeal as a general purpose processor and/or controller for demanding applications, such as the multimedia&co are - while those are the primary targets for Java (side by side with smartcards, which is rather a surprise for me; but maybe THAT is the environment where portability is really an issue, enabling to move to the vendor providing cheaper card in that particular moment of time). So, '51 remaining THE microcontroller, asm&C will remain the mainstream until the very last day of '51. Yes, they will need us, and the '51 will die with the last of us... :-) And I might be wrong, as usually... I said: There is at least one '51 derivative (plus the needed "cloud") supporting it [Java], and I suspect there are more. Erik said:
just for kicks, could you provide a link. Sure. ;-) Jan Waclawek |
