Now we DO disagree. I do not have any reason to find the Pentium 'crappy'. The only major 'fault' I find with Intel is the hits they take in order to be backwards compatible. That, however will have enormous advantages for many others, so I do not complain. The 8086 is one of the most poorly designed CPUs. Intel has made considerable improvement with the Pentium, but it's that backward compatibility that's the problem. The 68K was the first CPU designed by software engineers, not hardware engineers. Though it had some faults, it's still the most rationally designed CPU around (from a programmer's point of view). |
