While I'm inclined to dislike anyone who openly advocates the recreational use of illegal chemicals, and while I'm inclined to argue ad nauseum with anyone who takes a position he's ill-equipped to support, it's his original assertion that should be getting the attention of those interested in arguing for/against it.

The fact that the guy telling us the toilet's overflowing is a fool doesn't change the fact that the floor's getting wet.

The argument isn't over whether we like the guy, but it's about whether we agree with his assertion(s). While it's clear that most of us don't agree that assembler is dead, and while it's also clear that that assertion doesn't logically flow from his underlying belief that BASCOM is "kewl," we have to agree that BASCOM offers a way for one skilled in BASIC programming to make his code run faster.

Unfortunately, it's also clear that this O/P doesn't understand the first thing about microcontroller programming, about precise timing, and about the essentials of understanding what's going on inside one's own program, he does seem, at least to himself, to believe that he can do his work more easily and effectively with BASCOM than with other tools.

I think he's an idiot because he uses illegal drugs. I think he's a fool for discounting 'C' and Pascal, not to mention ASM as useful tools for developing microcontroller applications. What's more, I think he's a bigger fool for the string of bombastic remarks he's made.

Let's not waste a lot of time on his foolishness. If there's something to be gained from his assertions, let's examine them as objectively as we can, despite the fact he's soiled our "holy ground."

Let's hope and pray that he can focus on the questions put to him and not just duck them when he can't answer them.
