What is the debug support like for BASCOM? Darren Heywood said:
Bascom is equipped with a real time simulator OK, but what about target debug? I designed a complete scientific math set using this simulator and then tested it on the real thing... it all works!! But a "maths set" would have virtually no interactions with the hardware - if it worked on any simulator, you'd expect it to work in the real target I assure you it is alot easier to use than c On what basis do you give that assurance? What is your level of experience with 'C'? Code switching??.. not sure what you mean? I said Banking - not "switching". I'm surprised that you can so confidently dismiss 'C' and yet not even have heard of Code Banking... do you mean multitasking?? Absolutely not. if so remember this a 8051 and not a AMD64 Venice. I didn't even say that I thought Code Banking was a good idea The laws for any marketible product are lowest cost without reducing quality. Rubbish. Just look at fashion - plenty of people will happily pay for a brand without regard for quality! Hi Andy, Wow!!, this is one hell'ave right wing obnoxious forum, given that you have not quantified what code banking is and that you yourself have hinted that it is not such a good idea then lets leave it there. However I will answer your other questions. Microprocessor hardware design is so easy to do, it is difficult to claim it as skill at all. Yes, you are quite right maths functions dont require peripheral hardware to test but then we are supposedly talking about assembler and compilers and hence software not hardware, even so, bascom provides every register, memory byte and port lines in real time in full view, with selective break points with alot more besides. Next point, why do you want to now my level of experience regarding C??, I catergorically stated bascom is easier to use than C true or false??, the C syntax remains set in stone back way back in 1975, just because the IEE put a rubber stamp on it doesnt make it immortal, no in fact it's the 21st century now things have moved on since. As for fashion and quality, name me one quality made british car, lack of quality was the demise of the british engineering industry. If you don't understand what I'm on about then check the design of the WW2 churchill tank, what a joke. On another thread, you ask why bascom supports asm.. endasm, well well well, could it be flexibility??, Yeah, you can even build your own asm libary just like you can in C. Best Regards Darren |
