I forgot to mention that you can buy phones for the hearing impaired. See http://www.clearsoundscomm.com and/or their competitors. It's just an amplified phone with better audio components. It's funny (or not so) that with all the processing horsepower thrown at telephones (cell phones for example), that we are still stuck with such poor fidelity and bandwidth. I think in time VOIP will finally address this.
