Exactly! There's nothing spectacular about the tecnology. If you can wrap your mind around the applied mathematics, you've got it whipped. And yes, I believe that there are plenty of people who would even accept the old cigarette-pack style hearing aids, if they were digital and inexpensive. Especially if you could incorporate some sort of self-testing method that allowed the user to measure their own hearing graph.
As for the power consumption, I'd have to look into it. The whole digital-over-analog thing, as far as I know, has to do with the signal to noise ratio. It's the same benefit you get with CDs and MP3s over tape. Now if you want to ake a pretty penny, speaking of the power consumption, design something that can recharge those zinc-air batteries. If you can do that then everyone who uses a hearing aid (the small ones anyway) will buy your charger. |
