Are latching relay cost effective Usually, they are 20-50% more expensive than their non-latching counterpart; this might be an issue and also might not, depending on the circumstances. Compare for example http://search.digikey.com/scripts/D...me=Z106-ND and http://search.digikey.com/scripts/D...me=Z750-ND. Anurag Mishra said:
and easily available ? Now this is something I can't answer - you have to check it out at the suppliers within your reach. Although there is usually a less choice of them, I have no problem to get them at my local suppliers. Anurag Mishra said:
Are they a drop in replacement, or I need to modify my design (s/w and h/w) ? From principle, they are not a drop-in replacement. Mind: you must have a signal to switch them on, and a different signal to switch them off. So they come in 2 "styles": 1-coil, where you have to have some push-pull arrangement (usually a bridge); or the (simpler to drive) 2-coil, where you have 1 coil for switching on and 1 for switching off (at the cost of extra pins - on the relay and also on the microcontroller).
