#168131 - Relay or Triac
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hi Michael ,
Thanks for the reply.

A) 1 Relay per device. (p89v51 -> ULN2003 -> 1-device/output)
B) PSU section is fine. Multimeter is in series, between rectifier and regulator.
C) All relay OFF 70mA, All relay ON 398 mA (which is fine because each relay needs 41 mA)
D) There is no issue, but I need suggestion, if upgrading to triac would necessary mean lowered consumption. If yes, how much would be the reduction.

E) You are right, Triac and MCU (practically) always need opto-isolation.
F) I have never used triac, and google says, in some cases they may fail to switch, they need minimum load to operate, Harmonics, Zero -crossing detector is needed and dis-advantages like that. All this and finally opto + zero CD + Triac + Heat Sink etc user more space than relay, in fact only advantage I could conclude was "non-mechnical" !!!

Hence please advice.
