If you like to work on computers, run Linux. If you want to use computers, run something else. My experience of Linux is completely the opposite to yours. Today for example, the Office Win 2K box failed to recover from a MS patch, and had to be brought back to life with Knoppix. This is the same office machine that won't let me use bluetooth on it, for whatever reasons. My home box (Suse 10) saw the new bluetooth adapter, found its driver and used it with minimal prompting. Same with my Wireless LAN card. My whole network at home (including our Xbox) all run Linux, because it "just works", out of the box (network discovery). Print servers, Media server, webmail, kids homework, the lot. The network just doesn't go down ! Sure, a couple of years ago it wasn't that easy, but times they are a changin'. Linux is in many ways MORE hardware compatible than Windows these days. Steve |
