#108213 - Not to finish anything either, Responding to: ???'s previous message |
which is really to say that it is not my intention to silence or in any way stifle your contribution to the topic, however;
I noticed that you kept writing in the first-person-plural. Note that I write in the first-person-singular. If I had a staff, an IT department, then your points would be germane to my circumstance. The first time I set up my network (over in Wylie, just East of you), I tried to use Linux because I was hosting my own web site and email system and all the experts told me how much better it would be than if I used <insert your favorite pejorative for Windows and/or Bill Gates here>. For more than a month I tried to get everything running. I could get my machines talking to each other, but not to the email system. Or I could get the web server on-line, but half of my machines couldn't find the other half and vice versa. Finally one day I gave up on Linux. I loaded Windows back onto the machines, plugged them in, and low and behold they worked. They just worked. I didn't have to do anything but reboot the IP server about once every 6 months, about twice (maybe three times) a year. Now that I think about it, that's pretty comprable to the five minutes per year you mentioned. |
