And the linear view that gets up to 50 posts in one click, might actually be the one to use if bandwidth is important. Just one visit to the thread to get all new posts. Not one click for tree and then one click for every post you believe might be new. And one click for every post you might need to revisit because they may contain text that should have been quoted in the response you read - so the user himself must try to find the original text to check exactly what was said...
