You mustn't complain about the consequences. I have my preferences, too, and one difference in view of the forum, is that, rather than associating the posts chronologically, the tree view, which is MY preference, associates them logically, i.e. by topic. The consequence of that is that it's easy to see which post follows which, logically, though quite a temporal offset might exist.

When it says, "responding to Erik Malund's previous message" it's easy to look up the tree for the most recent post from him. That's the one to which the response is quite obviously generated.

I prefer that method over the chronological one. If you prefer the other, well, fine! You just have to put up with the fact it's more difficult to associated related posts.
