Kai, this is again a modular concept, in the sense that you say each load-cell should have its own Analog Front-end amplifier.

Though the difference is that you say the amp is based on an ADC which can output serial words. So in effect, this seems like one of those 'Digital load-cells'.

But again, either off-the-shelf digital load-cells are used, OR a small AFE amp board is made with ADC to be fit at or near each load-cell, the multiple ADCs will increase cost. And then again, would not the error of each ADC and mismatch between parts cause a total error when the control system tries to sum values up ?
