#170066 - different != bad Responding to: ???'s previous message |
No, Richard. I never called you racist, because this isn't a question of race or racism. But you have a firm opinion about everyone different from you in any way - age, education, music preferences, processor preferences, hair length, ... and that opinion is often expressed in a very generalized way. You have pretty much said that any US PCB house is run by drug addicts. You have pretty much said that any young person is lazy. You have pretty much said that anyone listening to music in earphones at work are stealing their employers money.
Maybe you don't intend your texts to read like that. But in my eyes, your posts do transfer that generalized view. When reading posts about school projects on this forum, there are a very large percentage of people trying to take a short-cut with their project assignments. But that is not representative of students at large. It is just that the brilliant students solves their problems themselves using datasheets and the information supplied by their teacher. And the honest but non-brilliant students manages to solve their problems by filling in the missing information using Google and a number of hours of reading - and trying to understand - existing threads and posted projects. Sometimes by asking specific questions. Most of the cheaters will be weeded out before the graduation by natural selection processes. Quite a number of people leaving school every year are very hard-working and intelligent. Most probably a very similar percentage as left school 10 years ago or 50 years ago. The exact percentage will not differ because of differences in the people but because other situations influences the number of educational spots. The current generation are different only in the way that they were practically born with Internet. But having had access to Internet from the moment they could read/write does not make them cheaters, just as being born with the access to TV and radio didn't make my generation cheaters. The only thing here is that as technology and society changes, so will the people. It is a natural progression that peoples view on different things changes with time. We can choice to adapt. Or we can try to stand firm. Trying to stand too firm can easily break us. In the end, you will just have to realize that people are different. Accept and enjoy this difference instead of considering everything different as bad. The world would be quite dull if everyone had the same ideas and views. No single human being being able to think something that the neighbour wasn't thinking almost at the same time. Chose who you employ or make business with, but don't consider everyone else lazy or drug addict. Every year, the schools are pushing out a lot of very talented people. But they will not be able to build our new society if we consider them fools for just being young. Gangs make war on gangs and society just because we are willing to have a we-them society. If we stop counting the next street as foreign territory, you wouldn't have criminal gangs since the members wouldn't be raised as criminals by other criminals. They would be raised as human beings among other human beings. It is so easy to wave of everything as "grow up, get a haircut and get a job". But it takes more than that to get the wheels of society to turn. |
