My point is....that it is quite possible to make a "bad" design using a "good" chip - so the mere presence of an FTDI chip is not a guarantee that they've used it properly!

no guarantee, yes; however shitty design most often goes together with cost cutting i.e. inferior components.

Than an aircraft has a Rolls Royce engine is no guarantee that it is great, but it does make it more likely
