How many of the new PIC's does KEIL support? What about the later M68HCxxx's? What about the Z80 scions? I could go on ... Totally irrelevant. If I switch to a new architecture, then it doesn't matter the slightest who manufactured the compiler for this architecture. C is C and language extensions needed for a specific architecture are only relevant for that architecture anyway. Knowledge about a compilers abilities to generate good/bad code will only be valid for a specific architecture, so when I switch architecture, I could just as well switch compiler vendor at the same time. Most compiler vendors has command-line compilers, so if I don't like the manufacturers IDE, I could use a generic IDE. The main reason for getting multiple compilers from the same vendor would have been if they had an offer that you get the following licenses at a reduced price, or if the support fee for one of the compilers was also valid for the compilers for the other architectures too. |
