#166200 - If you think 8052.com is bad ... Responding to: ???'s previous message |
... y'all should peruse the Xilinx forums. The level of gimme-code can be overwhelming.
And it's worse, because it seems like all of these kids are given $1,000 Virtex-4 development boards and are told to implement some ridiculous thing on it, so they ask, "How do I do <some ridiculous thing>?" which would take a professional a couple of weeks to implement, much less explain in a forum post. On one hand, I actually have some sympathy for these kids, as they are being asked to run marathons without knowing how to crawl. Their idiot instructors are possibly as lazy as the students they purport to teach. On the other hand, a lot of them really do show the worst of the "gimme code" culture. On the gripping hand, I blame Xilinx for making their whole EDK into a "push a button, get an (expensive, underwhelming) Linux system on an FPGA!" Those of us who are using EDK for traditional embedded apps, where the micro isn't the center of the universe, are constantly fighting the tools. It's a wonder sometimes that we actually get stuff to work. -a |
