That's far too infrequent!

Save everything after each significant change in folder named the date and time; eg, yyyy-mm-dd-hhmm (note that this "big-endian" format means that the alphabetical ordering in a directory listing will be the same as the chronological order)

Better, name it as above with the release as a suffix; eg, yyyy-mm-dd-hhmm_Rel-nnnn

Any good editor can, when needed, do a compare highlighting the changes between releases/saves
