#177739 - time is money Responding to: ???'s previous message |

There are prebuilt packages for most operating systems that let you install the server in no time at all.
Maintaining it is a simple matter of occasionally downloading and installing updates (a painless process), and setting up a cron or launchd job to back up the repository on a regular basis. All of this is free, except for the time involved. Here, time is not free, even if it may cost significantly less than at your place. Knowledge is not free either, as it hides in itself the time spent to acquire it. All in all, the guy who knows how to install the svn server in no time at all and who knows how to set up a cron or launchd job, asks $s for his no time at all and the painless processes. I was looking at professional services in this area and they charge roughly in the lower half of $$ monthly for what we (only a few people and ridiculously small data volumes) would need. That is $$$ per year; roughly the cost of a PC or two. I believe the cost of a professional doing the same in house would be roughly the same; maybe several decibels more in the UK or US. This is what I was asking for, a price estimate. I don't say it's little or too much. I don't seek entertainment in arguing here. JW |
