Yes but Chico will not drop his PWM because the alternative would be too much better. And he have specifically said that he does not want a better solution.

Chico is 100% focused on building a solution that will work badly. He has noticed one problem not caused by 5-step intensity ladder but caused by the assumption that a combined index is a good way to cycle colors. Right now, he's following his "mad dog path" - focusing completely on this perceived problem instead of taking two steps back and focusing on specifying the design goals for the finished product.

All we can do is give him his zig-zaged color cube. It does what he think he wants. The reason why the web isn't full of examples of zig-zaged color cubes is of course that they are lousy for letting a user select a color. And they are lousy for animating color transitions. But if Chico wants to use such a color cube, he must be allowed to go ahead. It isn't as we are giving him a loaded shotgun. We are just offering him salt and pepper when he isn't happy with the taste of his coffe and for some strange reason isn't interested in milk or sugar. After all, Chico says we don't understand his problem or what he wants if we offer milk, cream or sugar...
