#176651 - You are so full of yourself... Responding to: ???'s previous message |

for reference add up the values in the HTML chart (except the grey) you will see the sum of R, G and B is fairly constant. You are so full of yourself AND so wrong!! In this posting you are doling out critisism for the saw tooth color sequence of the 5*5*5 color sequence that Chico proposed: http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read/176547 Yet in this other posting you are suggesting to Kai that the HTML Colors (The web safe set) are better for your "constant intensity profile": http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read/176645 In Chico's 5x5x5 color index proposal he gets a total of 125 colors. These color values saw tooth through RGB values with steps of 0, 63, 127, 191, 255 (using RGBs with a normalized range of 000 to 255). Here is a graph of the RGB value totals across the range of the 125 colors: Get the 5*5*5 Range Spreadsheet here (Note this is an Excel 2007 format .XLSM file so right click on the link and select the SaveAs option to save to a file). In the HTML colors (Web safe colors) they use a 6*6*6 color index scheme for a total of 216 colors. These color values saw tooth through the RGB values with steps of 0, 51, 102, 153, 204, 255 (using RGBs with a normalized range of 000 to 255). Here is a graph of the RGB value totals across the range of the 216 colors: Get the 6*6*6 Range Spreadsheet here (Note this is an Excel 2007 format .XLSM file so right click on the link and select the SaveAs option to save to a file). As you can see from both charts there is virtually NO DIFFERENCE in the range of RGB Total values. Both ranges extend from 000 to 765. In fact the HTML Colors (web safe colors) have absolutely nothing to do with "nearly equal intensity". They instead map the colors into a range that fits within a subset of the colors that can be displayed on a video controller that only supports a palette of 256 colors. They are referred to as "WEB SAFE COLORS" so that the RAM DAC on a video controller could be loaded up with a color map of the 6*6*6 color map and web pages would display in a reasonably accurate way for browsers running on systems with configured 256 color modes. Note that these days the "HTML colors" are largely a moot point because almost all video controllers run in a mode that supports 8*8*8 colors (millions of colors). Rather than respond to this with one of your typical lame excuses about this or that why don't you do something useful and publish a spreadsheet with your range of "nearly equal intensity" colors. Lend some usefulness to your participation in this thread instead of the mumbo-jumbo you've given out so far. Michael Karas Carousel Design Solutions |
