If Chico could see through to the idea of increasing his number of PWM steps available on each color channel from 5 steps to 8 steps (i.e. from 0 to 7)
another (better) approach: go binary http://www.8052.com/forumchat/read/176419 you get 15 steps for 4 bits
also, with a PWM pulse for each color, you need to use 3 timers, going binary, you only need one.
