#167097 - Insurance company looks at use, not technology Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Having something remote-controlled is quite similar to having something connected to a timer.
The general rule is still that I am responsible for everything I do. If I do connect a halogen lamp, I must make sure that it is located a proper distance from anything that may catch fire from the great heat. The question here is if the insurance company has any reason to dislike the technology. The insurance company will - whatever certifications your equipment has - complain if you do connect things (with or without timer or remote control) in a way that they will overheat. A lot of people controls the heat in their cabins by some remote technology. But all they do is to switch from a frost-protecting +2°C to a comfortable +22°C - the actual regulation of the heat is done by a fixed installation. If someone hijacks the equipment, the end result may either be that the house is cold when they get there, or that the energy bill will be way higher than expected. |
