In the datasheet, they have given reference circuit for Reset, and they have used RC there. But in certain application notes, they have simply used a pull up as you recommended
Some idiot, not there any more, suckered a bunch into believing in a "noise suppression capacitor" on the reset pin. If you analyze the circuit, you will see that w/o the capacitor you have a supervisor, with the cap you have RC reset UGH!!! Discussing this with a very knowledgeable person at SILabs, I got confirmation to the above and the explanation for leaving the cap in on the devboards was "company confidential". My guess is that some boss do not dare change anything. I have 10thousands of boards out there with just the resistor and no failures. Erik |
