... then there's little the MCU can do to debounce the switches, as the PISO register simply samples what's there at the time and moves it to the MCU. That's why you probably need to go back to basics. The debounce can be quite effective using just an RC filter, but if the impedance goes too high, it becomes susceptible to ambient noise and EMI.
