Are companies really using PIC in commercial designs? If we're comparing cheap PICs, isn't the equivalent a small pin-count Philips part at something like 40 or 50 cents? One of our suppliers offered to create a product we needed but did not have the time to do ourselves. The showed up with a PIC based design and I asked "why the PIC" they replied "we needed this feature". I pointed them to SILabs and voila, the next iteration of the product was '51 based.
PIC marketing scored a goal, but lost the game. Had I not been able to "work for SILabs marketing" in this instance, this would have been a PIC "design win" Erik |
