#105674 - Battery seems to be disconnected! Responding to: ???'s previous message |

Today i hooked my scope to the battery.I saw some random bounces with amplitudes up to 5V.These bounces were very short lenghted and most of the times they happend between the alternator phases. This looks like a bad battery, which became so high ohmic that the switching noise from generator cannot be sufficiently suppressed. Normally, a good and full battery is so low ohmic, that it presents a short circuit for the noise. As Steve already mentioned, charging two batteries is problematic. Can you give us a schematic, which shows the whole connections arround the two batteries? The arrangement of the two diodes D1 and D2 shows another disadvantage: The ignition system is no longer connected directly to battery, if these diodes don't conduct. Means, if noise is injected onto supply line of ignition system, which makes the cathodes less positive than before, then the low impedance of battery is still available. But if there's noise, which makes the cathodes more positive than before, then the battery seems to be disconnected! This is not at all good, because the ignition system needs a very low ohmic voltage source. Maybe this is the source of your spikes? Connect a strong capacitor across D3. Become the spikes smaller then? What shows the scope directly at supply line of ignition system? Kai |
