They are quoting the microcontrollers power consumption, but what about anything that you have connected to the microcontroller? What is the external devices that are connected to the microcontrollers power draw? Atmel claims that the I?o and the memory are unaffected by the Idle mode, so if you were driving something and that something consumes power, it will continue to consume power.
