A problem like this really shouldn't cause the PC to lock-up; so I would very much suspect that it's a software issue with the application not properly handling invlaid data - rather than anything at the serial port hardware level...But I could be wrong there! The serial port was messed up. Not the PC. When I used a crappy terminal program written from VB6, THEN I had to reboot the PC. YES, of course. Incidentally that was the first time I got ripped off by buying some USB to Serial cables (also from China) they claimed to have the Prolific chips in them. The problem was similar. The guy who sold me them had disappeared. |
