Just because "MFA" gives better results in one particular application with one particular set of criteria doesn't necessarily mean that it will be better in other applications with other criteria.

That paper seems to be addressing a vastly more complex problem than "just" controlling a heating band - so PID is (probably) perfectly adequate here, and "MFA" might be a "sledgehammer to crack a nut".

The basic premise of the paper is, "PID does not work well here - we needed something else". I don't think that's the case with controlling a heating band - is it?
