I might kind of agree with your sentiment Kai, but doesn't "Didn't search first" encompass ALL searching - Google, this forum, etc? The implication being that if the OP had s'd tfw* first he would have found masses of information on random / pseudo-random number generation. Ok, and if he had done so and found something more useful than posting here, he wouldn't have visited us. Think about the consequences of this idea: We would only be visited then by people not having found anything useful anywhere else, which, if we do not have some very exclusive information here would result in the death of this forum. It is as if the cook of the restaurant ask us: "Hey, why are you here? Come on, there must have been something eatable in your kitchen, too! Go home and search first!" Adny said:
... "didn't do basic research" - which includes the search here, also google, and checking the FAQs, etc, and reading documentation, where appropriate... But why do you know, that he didn't already made a search?? What, if he has found us due to this search?? Andy said:
It's basically about the "minimum effort" criterion in the Forum Rules... But that is a stupid forum rule, invented by people, who don't want to be bothered by questions. It's just the wrong way to make a forum attractive. That's the opposite of a "Come in!", but a "Go home!". Each new visitor is welcomed with a slap in the face. What a harsh attitude... You can anyone accuse to haven't searched enough. It's totally relative and subjective. I find this karma point absolutely absurd and ridiculous. Kai Klaas |
