Back in the days ... was ... was ... biggest EPROMs of the day were 2kB ... was ... was ... was ... was ... Yes, Richard, nostalgia is a wonderful thing thing! When I was born, steam engines ran the railways over here (just). Now I love steam engines, and it's great to see some still running - even a brand new one - but you wouldn't want to run the whole system like that today! When you talk about that stuff being "comfortable" that's really only in terms of the demands placed on it back then, and relative to the alternatives available back then. In terms of modern requirements, and relative to modern tools available today, they would be un-comfortable in the extreme! Yes, my first programming experience was entering hex codes via a keypad, and I have used resident monitors (with a built-in assembler to "patch" the code)- it was great at the time, but I am glad that I don't have to do that any more! |
