A general article (not specific to any particular compiler or target) on writing efficient 'C' code:
Getting the Least Out of Your C Compiler
Class #508, Embedded Systems Conference San Francisco 2001 Jakob Engblom IAR Systems Box 23051 SE-750 23 Uppsala Sweden http://user.it.uu.se/~jakob/pu...f-2001.pdf For specific advice related to Keil C51, see: http://www.keil.com/support/m...c51_xc.htm Richard Erlacher is quite entitled to his opinions. And of course to use whichever chips, architectures and languages that he chooses. I am sure that if he read this article, he would be better informed about the modern world. There are always going to be applications that may benefit from squeezing into a smaller chip. You just have to evaluate the time to market, market size, development costs etc. I am also sure that there are bright innovative minds who will develop new products that the older generation would never dream of.
