#167631 - locked tools Responding to: ???'s previous message |

One refreshing approach to "evaluation" licensing is CodeRed, who do a toolset for the Luminary Micro (now TI) chips: their "evaluation" is unrestricted in code size & features, but is locked to a Luminary Dev Board - so you can explore the full capabilities of the tools to the full capabilities of the chip on the Dev Board.
Only when you actually come to make your own target hardware do you need to pay-up for the "full" licence. Analog Devices, and perhaps TI, too, offers eval kits with processors, memory and a peripheral expansion port, and provides the full tool set that works with only those kits. Otherwise, the tools cost $$$$. So, for learning and eval, it's a good deal, as some of the starter kits are only a couple hundred bucks. -a |
